This Satirical Thriller
Coralie Fargeat's unflinching critique examines the demanding standards for feminine aesthetics along with the dreaded aspects of advancing years. The veteran actress offers a masterful acting turn playing Elisabeth, a 50-year-old celebrity reduced to starring in an aerobics show on the small screen. The Woman in Cabin 10
This Agatha Christie-esque story features Knightley in the role of Laura, a skilled journalist who opts for a hiatus from covering global conflict to embark on an opulent ship with a gravely sick wealthy inheritor and donor, her partner, as well as other filthy rich individuals. Yet once an unknown lady disappears from the ship during the evening and all passengers insists she wasn't real, Laura's investigative instincts take over. Streaming currently, Netflix
This Supernatural Story
Soderbergh tests his film-making abilities through this innovative ghostly tale filmed completely from the viewpoint of the phantom. When a household featuring mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe occupies their fresh home, the filming device – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. The daughter appears aware of the supernatural presence, and the entity appears protective of her. Yet what is the reason? It's a fun idea that remains concise, with a twist you might not see coming. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema
This Self-Referential Film
Cage fully commits to his eccentric image via this meta comedy caper. He plays a self-obsessed film star named Nicolas Cage who takes on a million-dollar gig to attend a festive event at a Mediterranean location for the wealthy Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Hired by the intelligence agency to spy on the potential kingpin, his unconventional method comes in handy. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
The director's locked-room horror remains effective despite the lack of a sequel. Located in the late 70s in Denver, multiple kidnappings has left the youth anxious. After Finney gets captured by the villain and locked up in a cellar, he anticipates a fatal end. But the non-functional line mounted nearby continues to ring, with eerie communicators providing assistance, as the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen might rescue him. An effective horror. This Saturday, late evening, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for Mammon in this director's delightfully tacky true story of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple commence capitalizing on the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of tacky decor, bad makeup and bad faith, though Chastain achieves to show Tammy Faye in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
The Spy Mystery
This period's another release from the filmmaker delivers a spy mystery as tight like the turtlenecks used by the actor's intelligence officer. He receives a mission to discover a traitor within their ranks from five suspects – one of whom is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. The two stars are experts of understated style, so a delicious psychological game of deception or honesty unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela take part the clever spy entertainment. This Friday, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema
