Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
