Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach remarked.

“It's important to change things and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Response

Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results this poor.”

He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
